Last night after day one of the rehabilitation of my left knee, I was speaking with my wife, Jeannine; about the first day. She told me that I should start blogging about the process each day and how it is going. So here it goes.
Let me start with some history, last summer during my summer of running (I did 13-5k's and 2-10k's in an 8 week period, literally running one almost one every other day.), I stepped off a curb and felt a pop in my knee. I continued to run and eventually in late October, early November the pain was too much and took a visit to my doctor. Surgery was necessary and scheduled for December 9th. The result of the surgery was medial meniscus removed, clean up of the other meniscus, ligament repair and some extra work on the bone in the knee. Surgery went good but had to wait until doctor said I could start rehab. Yesterday, January 2, 2018 it started.
I am writing this blog to be an inspiration, I hope; to each of you. The basics: I am not 21 years old any more, actually I am 57. I didn't start running until a little over a year ago. Some would say I was an athlete in my younger days, but those days are far gone. I struggle to be motivated and get up and train. And time is a factor. Also I am not a FAN of running. I like it after, before I actually hate it and this last month I have looked at this injury as a reason to stop. Excuses are abundant right now and I have them all. I am sure each day I will have more.
The reason for the title: "Eph. 3:20 Blogging The Progress," is rather simple. "Blogging The Progress," is to keep me motivated to blog the process of this rehabilitation and again hopefully doing some inspiration. "Eph. (Ephesian) 3:20" is my favorite Biblical passage. It says, "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably than all we could ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." And I know that this process will take a greater power than just me to get me back to running distances again.
Here is the recap of the last two days:
Day 1: After much whining and complaining, I started the rehab process. I am beginning on a treadmill (honestly because I don't want to look like I am struggling and limping). After about 3 minutes of running, there was a noticeable limp in my steps, plus the pain was excruciating. 5 minutes and the tears were flowing and the walking began. YES REAL TEARS!!! At this point, I walked for about 10 minutes, ran for another 2, and then finished with walking the last 3 minutes. Next came, 25 squats and lots of stretching. Day 1 ended with pain, tears and lots of limping. The recovery took about an hour for the pain to just ease enough for me to move again around the house and run the errands that I needed to take care of. Tomorrow will be another day.
